Short Story: Shadow Walker

Hi, I'm new to the forums. I've been posting sections of a short horror story on my web site which is called Shadow Walker. One of the folks on the forums where I post suggested that this would be a good place to post my story as well. The story is in six parts and I've posted up three parts so far. Each part is 5-7 pages in length. It is a bit of a writing experiment for me, and I'm posting it online in the hope of getting comments and suggestions.

Part one

Virgil Porter's world is turned upside down when a loud screeh erupts from somewhere in his neighborhood. The sound wakes the entire neighborhood, and Virgil makes a gruesome discovery along with two of his other neighbors; an entire family has been peeled and left for dead. Only a woman has survived, but there are no answers to what caused the attacks.

The police are next to useless, and soon it becomes apparent that Crescent Avenue is not the only neighborhood with a problem with a "screecher". Virgil takes the law into his own hands and investigates the strange shadowy creatures who are stalking his family and friends. Time is running out, and the whole nation is losing the fight to the monsters. Can Virgil find a way to save the united neighbors of Crescent Avenue, or is their tiny community doomed?

Part two

Virgil must enter another of his neighbor's houses to witness the gruesome handiwork of "the screecher". New clues on the scene begin to add more questions over the purpose and identity of the killer, even if some of the clues seem to be impossible to believe.

Part three

Virgil is getting desperate for answers. Posing as the uncle of the lone survivor of the block, Mary Jackson, he makes a trip to the hospital to see if the doctors have any explanations.

---

I'll post the other parts with a delay of three days in between each post, and to avoid cluttering the board, I will update the thread with announcements of new posts. I hope you like the story, and if you have any thoughts, feel free to leave them here or email me through the web site.

Shadow Walker four is up, and we're rounding the bend to the finish line. I hope you're enjoying the story so far, and I've tweaked the first four parts to imporve puctuation in the dialouge and remove some repetitive wording. Anyway, here is the blurb:

Virgil's suspicions are confirmed when the creature from the hospital invades his home while another couple in the neighborhood is slain by the original monster. Virgil makes a surprising discovery about the creatures; they communicate telepathically.

Part Five of Shadow Walker is up. The neighbors have gathered in Virgil's house in preparation for a final assault by the banshees which doesn't arrive. Nothing can be done to prevent another attack, and with the government officialy denying the existence the banshees, it falls to Virgil to come up with a desperate attempt to keep his family and his neighbors alive.

Here is the conclusion to Shadow Walker. In part six, Virgil tries to explain to the police how everything went wrong during the final assault of the banshees.

Part six

So that's the big finish, and if any of you have made it all the way to the end, I'd like to ask for your thoughts. Did you like it or hate it? Were there any flaws that you noticed somewhere? I put out the story for free to find out what should be fixed, so although I'd like to hear someone say they liked it, I'd also like to know where it didn't work for you as a reader. I thank everyone who took the time to read the story, and I hope you enjoyed it.
