I am looking for another series to read while i wait for the new Anita BLake to come out and I thought I would ask fellow horror fiction fans for suggestions. It is so hard to tell from reading book jackets wether it is worth picking up or not. Thank you in advance for your help

give me some frame of reference... other than anita blake what else do you like? I've been tremendously pushing House of Leaves, which is a stand alone but the most fascinating thing I have ever read. I can't recommend it enough. For a series, I like the Merrily Watkins books by Phil Rickman. They're about a female exorcist working for the Anglican church. Very creepy stuff. They're from a brit writer and can be a little hard to find, but they're worth the look.

Excellent idea. I posted in a hurry as i was on my way out and really should have listed some interests. I'm kind of over vampires unless the other characters a very strong. I love werewolves. I like a good mystery but more supernatural than serial killer as I have read so much about actual serial killers.

Disclaimer: I don't read a ton of horror, and can't think of a decent series along those lines. Having said that, I work in a bookstore and get questions like this every day. First off, House of Leaves is definitely worth the effort. Thoroughly impressive and completely unnerving. As long as you haven't completely given up on vampires, I've heard nothing bad about The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova (it's probably next on my list). Ira Levin wrote Rosemary's Baby, but I also really liked The Boys from Brazil. Max Brooks' World War Z has been getting some play on this here website, but I have my reservations about suggesting it (good idea, fun, but not very well written). And don't forget that The Omen and The Exorcist are still around in novel form, too. Before I start to feel any more like LeVar Burton, I'm gonna leave you with that.

for zombies I'd go Monster Island, Monster Nation, and the forthcoming Monster World by David Wellington. Imagine zombies that remain intelligent... For mystery, I continue my recommendation of Phil Rickman. His books are very much mysteries with a supernatural bent. A less creepy, more fun series would be the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Imagine a wizard working for the police in modern Chicago. It's kind of a hardboiled detective / dark fantasy combo. Both creepy and funny as hell.

I am currently reading The Historian and I think it's pretty good. I also read Anita Blake, and I sympathize with the wait for the next one. Have you read any of Charlaine Harris' southern vampire series? They are a little comedic, but a lot of fun. Not scary, if that's what you're looking for. I enjoy Edward Lee, but they are mostly stand alone books, no series. Good luck with the hunt.
