I was a huge fan of the R.L Stein FEAR ST books and also anything by Christopher Pike.

I think I read ALL of them I could lay my hands on. I was about 10 i think.

It must have been either Ambrose Bierce or HP Lovecraft.

I read a collection of scary short stories when I was in third grade; one of them, "The Thing," scared the crap out of me. ( I actually don't think that collection was intended for kids, but it got into the school library by mistake.) I delighted in sharing the story on every sleepover/slumber party I attended from then on.

When I was 12 I read "Christine," followed by "Skeleton Crew" and I've been a King fanatic ever since.

Isn't 12 the absolute perfect age for stuff like that? I was older than that when Stephen King first started publishing, but he always appealed to the 12-year-old boy portion of my personality.

The first horror book I ever read was Sleepy Hollow I was about 7. Ever since then I have developed a curiosity for horror storyline.

I don't even remember what it was called. It was one of those really bad novels you can pick up at a dollar store?

Anyway.

It was a serial killer story. It scared me to death, I was only six. XD It made me deathly afraid of shelving units, haha.

I don't remember the name of it, but I was six and my mom was reading me a supernatural/ghost story book. Mom is really good at reading books aloud.

The only one I can remember the name to that far back that might have been horror were those Haunted Kids / Psychic Kids books. Just collections of strange stories that were supposed to be true. Some of them creeped me out.

I would have to say the first was "The Murders in Rue Morgue" the E.A. Poe story about the orangutan with a straight razor, I first read it when I was 8 and still think it's one of the best ideas ever. I mean it's about a orangutan merking people with a straight razor how sick is that.
