I keep seeing threads about death metal and death metal bands, I was just wondering if anyone here is into black metal?
I used to be really into death metal but black metal has become my new favorite metal subgenre, I really like Isengard, Bathory, and Lord Wind at the moment.

folks..Slayer is neither Death nor Black Metal..they are Thrash/speed Metal. They influenced the genres of death and black with their extreme lyrics, but have always been a thrash/speed band.

Black Metal is officially classified by their tremolo machine gun guitars, fast fast speeds, blastbeating drums. Atmospheric inducing music, and the lead vocalists style resembling that of Regan in the Exorcist, you're trying to sound possessed, that screeching style. Black metal bands include Goatwhore, Mayhem, Emporer, Dimmu Borgir, Ensiferum, and Naglfar.
Amon Amarth, while a very awesome band, are not black metal, they are death metal.
Goatwhore is black metal, they hail from the state of Louisiana.
There is a rational explanation why Cradle is not black metal. Their earliest releases could be classified as black metal, it is their propensity to scale down the extremity of the music in favor of more mood inducing music with lands them firmly in the camp of goth metal with obvious black metal influences.
But to call them black metal, esp. in their current incarnation, is a quick road to getting into a shouting match with a black metal purist.
Great book to read on black metal is "Lords of Chaos: The Rise of the Satanic Underground".

I love black metal. While Dimmu Borgir might be classified as symphonic black metal, they are probably my favorite. I also love the music of Emperor, Immortal, Celtic Frost, Belphegor, Abraxas, Flaying, Profanation, and Venom. Great genre.

first of all people cradle of filth is goth metal! always trying to be MTV friendly. And Slayer and Venom are thrash bands. I love black metal, some of my favs have to be Witchcraft(Hun), Graveland, Satanic Warmaster, Burzum, Drudkh, Astrofaes, Temnozor, Nargaroth... and many many more. but damn dimmu and cradle...thats not black metal people...
