for alot of people it could be an escape from reality even though at times within some horror movies there is some baseline of truth....for me the carnarge is a great escape from every day life

meh people at my school have the tendency to think they're "cool" or "gothic" if they watch horror movies, so they obsess with the genre, especially torture porn...
I watch it because of the adrenaline rush you obtain during the chase at the end or when you know somethings about to happen, the heart-stopping spontaneity, and the (now few) stories that you have to actually understand to follow.

Wow, what a great question. I think for me personally, my attraction to horror movie started at an early age. I liked them visually, satisfying my passion for darker/Gothic images. Over the years I have come to appreciate their ability to use metaphor to tackle social issues.

Its a safe way to experience violence in a controlled environment, especially when one's life feels out of control.

Horror is just like sex.....were naturally curious....we wanna see a dead body we wanna see how someone dies and it tends to give in to our voyeuristic sides too......who doesnt like watching things blow up or die or have sex or whatever...

First off i think it's a good release for violence without ever commiting a real crime. Secondly horror is unexpected by that i mean most other genres of movies usally have the same kind of story just different reasons and people. You know like all romance movie follow a main script of they fall in love, they break up becuase of some issue, then they end up getting together in the end. Its the same thing in all of those types of movies just different circumstances. But when it comes to horror there are twist and turns in every corner and sometimes the movies ends happy and sometimes it dosen't you never know.

well for me, i just love watching someone get their throat slashed and know that it's fake, plus it helps me escape the real world, it's the best genre out there
