CHAPTER 1

CHAPTER 1   Vassago

"Do you think she has any idea of her importance?"  An evil grin played across Astaroth's lips.

Vassago looked ponderingly at the girl standing before him unknowing of his presence.  He shook his head slowly.  "Not a clue.  She thinks she is worthless.  Believes it actually."

Astaroth's smile faded as she gazed at Vassago.  "Surely you have no sympathy for this mortal bitch?  Your job is to keep her off track and away from the light.  Not to sympathize!"  she spat.

Vassago broke his gaze from the girl and in a fluid motion grabbed Astaroth by the neck and held her up.  "Do not presume to think that I feel anything, but malice for this woman."  his tone calm but sound.

Astaroth vanished beneath Vassago's grip.  In the place of her human form was a glowing orb of black and dark purple swirling masses.  "The bearer of light has plans for this one.  It will free us all.  Do not attempt anything foolish."

Vassago gave the woman a fleeting glance and then too disolved into a dark orb.  The two beings drifted off and vanished altoghether.

CHAPTER 2   Sadie

Like most days and nights Sadie sat on the park bench watching the children playing with their parents.  Mostly their mothers, but some had their fathers there as well.  A sad smile quickly faded from her face and returned as her normal blank stare.  How long had it been since the accident.  She couldn't remember, everything

was so sketchy.  She didn't even remember how she had hit the tree.  Or even how she could have escaped from the fireball that engulfed the car.  The torment washed through her all anew.  A child, her husband, gone from her in an instant.  Her husband she could have done without.  His cruelty was more than she could have born.  She took every beating, every insult with pride and fought back everytime.

Her sweet little girl, was all she really had in this world.  With her gone.  There just wasn't any real reason to stay.  She looked down at her stained and soiled pajamas.  The children looked and smiled at her, but the parents were all to leary and kept them all at a safe distance with ever watchful eyes.

Sadie closed her eyes and felt the cool autumn breeze blow past her face and through her tousled hair.  Since the accident she had never spoken one word out loud.  Thinking yes, quite often, but never speaking.  What would she have to offer in conversation anyway.  What could anyone else have to offer her.  Sadie held her hands behind her back instinctually.

"She's over here!"  A scream brought Sadie back into reality and she jerked her head from one side to the other as to see where the voices were coming from.

"Move with caution.  Everyone leave the park at once!"  another shout

Parents started running with their children to their cars in a panic.  Soon there was nothing but silence and a quiet Sadie sitting still on a lone park bench.

The two men moved steadily toward auburn headed girl.  Her hair covered her part of her face which blocked the view of the two men.  Each one from both sides of her moved in quickly and took her arms.  No fighting, no resistance.  Sadie walked calmly with them back to the assylum.

CHAPTER 3    Gregory aka Mephistoph

eles

It was night again and Gregory's shift at the assylum.  Though he was always on call he couldn't show up till dusk.  The doctor of the facility.  He had to keep regular checks on all the inmates.  One in particular, she kept escaping.  How in the world she kept getting out was beyond him.  Well, he knew, but he had to play it off like it was a shocker.  Something about this girl this woman was so intriguing to him.  The more time he spent around her the more lost in her he became.  Something magnetic.  Perhaps it was her own sadness and emptiness that drew him to her.  She never spoke a word, but he could hear every thought she had.  A gift so to speak.  Her soul was truely a tortured one, not one that reached out from pain, but one who lived within itself.

It was a weakness of his.  The girls in the institution.  He couldn't help himself he played around alot with them.  Nothing sexual, but mischeavous none the less.  Not to be gotten wrong Gregory felt sexual desire more so than any mass of human's ever could begin to understand.  The extent of this sexual hunger was enough to massacre civilizations when he were a younger being.  Through the ages he was able to keep it on a less grander scale and pick of a transiant female every now and then.  His income was determined by the amount of inmates that were kept in the assylum.  If they left then the institution would be become banckrupt.  He didn't need the income from this place, he had other financial gains throughout the world.  It would seem all to strange if he funded this buisness venture with cash from unknown sources.  Besides, if he lost this place he would lose her.  He couldn't let that happen.  Wouldn't let it happen.
