Let's hear what the horror fans here have to say. Keep in mind everyone has a different definition of horror. So share your thoughts, frights and opinions.
It depends on the intent of the show really. I can appreciate a good plotless gore show just as much as a deep psychological thriller. So long as you have good acting and good direction (whatever direction the writers wanted) I will probably like it or at least respect it.
But for personal preference... I'm partial to Sci Fi.
Aliens, Virus, Mutants > Demons, Monsters of unexplained origins, Redneck families with questionable moral fiber
Characters you can relate to and a convoluted but intelligent plot without mistakes. The next most important thing is that they don't keep changing the time and day that it shows on. Finally, they MUST NOT cancel the show!
Putting Masteres of Horror aside, "V" always comes to mind as being a classic Horror/Sci-Fi series right along with Alien Nation which was great until Sergeant Frisco gave birth and they jumped the shark then cancelled the show. Right now there isnt much but I am hooked an Dexter, there is a respectable amount of gore and the story is great, I wish there were more series like this, kudos to Showtime.
What Constitutes a quot;Good" Horror Television Series for You?
