Pearl and Anna are running a vampire halfway house, taking in the vamps who crawled out of the crypt with them. Pearl pays a visit to Damon, demanding that he turn over all the information he has gained since joining the Mystic Falls council. She wants to take back Mystic Falls for the vampires. Damon refuses, and Pearl attacks him harshly.

Jenna helps Elena dig up some more info on her birth mother. Some old patient records and a quick Google (er, sorry, Bing) search turned up everything needed to put the pieces in place. The girl was Isabelle Peterson - not her real name.

Both Bonnie and Elena are being held by Anna and Ben in a motel room. Several escape attempts fail. Anna meets Damon in town to work out an uneasy alliance to open the crypt: Anna will bring the witch, Damon will bring the grimoire.

it is all about Jonathan Gilbert’s journal. Stefan confronts him and finds out that Aleric’s wife was killed by Damon, but he is there for answers, not revenge. His wife’s body was never found. Stefan works an uneasy bargain: he will protect Alaric from Damon if Stefan can take the journal.
