Welcome to the first Tuesday of 2008! Unfortunately the horror pickings are extraordinarily slim for Tuesday the first of January. (There must be some marketing logic behind it, but it's a really slim DVD day in every genre!) Research indicates that the only horror titles on tap today are:

An "evil dead twin" tale called Solstice, which comes from one of the Blair Witch co-directors. The cast includes Shawn Ashmore, Amanda Seyfried, and R. Lee Ermey, which is cool ... but the flick's rated PG-13, so tread lightly.

Also today we get the third chapter in the Resident Evil franchise, the cleverly-titled Resident Evil: Extinction. Expect a full-bore review of the DVD a bit later this week, because it could be a rotten flick -- but hey, it's got Milla Jovovich (and zombie carnage) in it! And if you're one of those Hi-Def folks, today you can get the whole Resident Evil trilogy in that there fancy disc format.

If you've got a few new gift cards that you just HAVE to burn through, you could check out the action aisle for Shoot 'Em Up (recommended) or War (not recommended), but my advice is to wait for next Tuesday. That's when we get back to all the sequels, the slashers, and (yay!) the man-eating mammoths! (Plus a really solid sci-fi chiller than very few people went to see!)

And from everyone here at FEARnet, Happy New Year! May your 2008 be filled with good health, good fortune, good people, and (of course) good horror flicks.
