R.I.P. Vampira
The horror community bids a fond farewell to Vampira, who passed away January 10th, 2008 peacefully in her sleep. Maila Nurmi, better known to her fans and the horror world alike as Vampira, was host of The Vampira Show in which she introduced horror movies while dressed in dark, sleek clothing with pale, white skin. Nurmi got her start as an actress, appearing in Ed Wood's cult favorite, Plan 9 from Outer Space. In her later years she opened Vampira's Attic, an antique store where she sold handmade clothing and jewelry. Maila Nurmi, Vampira, will be sorely missed in the genre community. Our hearts go out to her family and friends.
