Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski is teaming up with The Aviator screenwriter John Logan and The Departed producer Graham King for a new animated tale.
Still in the extremely early stages due to the writers strike, the project does not have a title or exact budget but is projected to be around $100 million and set for release in 2010.
Logan?s also busy scripting the adaptation of the graphic novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret for Martin Scorsese, about an orphan who discovers a mystery involving his father and a robot. He?ll script the animated film while King produces and Verbinski handles the directorial chores.
Variety.com reports that Verbinski would like to ?use his facility working with f/x-based creatures on the Pirates of the Caribbean pics in this directing endeavor.?
