David Lynch conquered it in ?84 and Sci-Fi Channel made an attempt in 2000 with their mini-series so now it?s time to pass the torch of Dune to Paramount Pictures. Yup, Paramount is tapping into Herbert?s classic sci-fi novel Dune and adapting the novel for the big screen, yet again! This time though, Paramount is employing the help of screen-actor turned writer/director/producer Peter Berg.

For those that missed Herbert?s 1965 novel, the 1984 film or the 2000 TV mini-series, Dune is about the power struggle and control over the empire?s sole source of the spice Melange, commonly used for distant space travel on the remote desert planet Arrakis. And according to Variety.com, the newest adaptation is considered one of Paramount?s tentpole films since its themes of the power struggle for finite ecological resources is a particularly relevant idea in today?s current state.

Though the film does not yet have screenwriters attached, Kevin Misher (Case 39), who initially obtained the book rights from the Herbert Estate, will produce. Director, Berg is also slated to helm superhero comedy Hancock (Exclusive interview with Hancock star Haylie Marie Norman) later this year.
