After High Tension and the Hills remake, I would have followed Alex Aja anywhere.

But he had to go the "producer" route in this woefully generic chase thriller, and now I'm a little bit irritated. Wes Bentley is the chaser; Rachel Nichols is the chased (and chaste). The title refers to the parking lot in which the whole of the film takes place. It's as exciting as it sounds. But it's a suspense classic of the highest order when compared to the Day of the Dead remake that hits shelves today. Not nearly as wretched as the producer's previous rip-off (that'd be Creepshow 3), the new Day features a semi-colorful cast and a wet fistful of adequate gore-pops, but it's really just another low-budget slog through zombietown.
Also today: the little-seen Cruel World, which blends horror with reality television and stars the likes of Edward Furlong, Jaime Pressly, and Susan Ward. I haven't read many nice things about this longtime shelf-sitter, but it's already snagged a spot in my Netflix queue. Also today: The Cellar Door, which is about a girl who awakens to find herself trapped in a lunatic's work-shedzzzzzzzzzzzz...
Next week: Some backwoods retribution, a little loch ness terror, more aliens tangling with more predators, and (yes) the vicious French import known as Inside.
