One word: Inside. Buy it, rent it, make your friends watch it. (But only if your friends are A) adults and B) adventurous.) We already covered the flick in a full review of the film [I, but here's a quick reminder: Inside. See it.

By Scott Weinberg

Next in line, I suppose, would be Aliens vs. Predators: Requiems (or something like that; the pluralizations are arbitrary and confusing), which rectifies the first flick's rampant PG-13-ism, but does nothing to improve upon its paper-thin characters, woeful dialog, and general air of ... meh. And I'm sorry but a movie about ALIENS and PREDATORS eating each other should never be "... meh." And yet it's happened twice already. Jeez.

Also today we get a pretty solid little indie thriller called The Backwoods, which played at Fantastic Fest last year and stars Gary Oldman, which is always cool. It's definitely in the Deliverance / Straw Dogs vein ...at the beginning, anyway. Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Retribution also played at Fantastic Fest, but I must have missed it amidst all the beer and entrails. It comes from the director of Cure and Pulse (the original, obviously), so it's probably worthy of a rental.

This just in: A movie called LOCH NESS TERROR arrives on DVD today. That's right: Killer Nessie. Woo!

Special mention for The Minus Man, a strange little thriller from '99 that stars Owen Wilson, Janeane Garofalo, Dennis Haysbert, and Dwight Yoakam. It's the directorial debut of Blade Runner screenwriter Hampton Fancher, and while I don't exactly love the movie, I'd definitely recommend it for a one-night peek. If only to see Owen Wilson being young and homicidal.

Next week: Giant monsters, missed phone calls, sick nurses, and one wonderfully creepy Orfonato.
