Frank Miller's film adaptation of long-time friend and fellow artist Will Eisner's original comic masterpiece is possibly one of the most anticipated genre films of 2009. So when we got the chance to go a special party held by our friends at Lionsgate (the studio behind The Spirit) with the one and only Frank Miller and hot-stuff Eva Mendes we did not, of course, pass up the offer. On Friday night, just after the day's events at New York Comic Con wrapped, we shot over to the Bowery Hotel and hob-nobbed with Miller, caught a picture of his greatness as well as of the newest poster art triptych for the film.
And just when you thought it couldn't get better than hanging with Frank Miller on a Friday night, today we got to preview a bit of NEVER-before-seen-footage of The Spirit!! Though the cuts were rough and Miller and his crew are still finalizing the look of the world, the first-cut clip we saw of the film looked a hell of a lot like Sin City, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, if it's just as visually stunning, but may be a problem for some fans who fell in love with the look and feel of the quite different Spirit comic.
"For purists it will be a bit of a shock," said Miller on the difference between the portrayal of Will Eisner's original and the film adaptation. And since Miller was such a great friend of Eisner's before his death in 2005,whatever The Spirit ends up looking like, Miller and the film's producers assure us it will be respectful of Eisner's wishes.
Check back later for the full story from Frank Miller and more from the hot-as-hell star Eva "Sand Saref" Mendes and the producers of The Spirit!
