Today, Guillermo del Toro and a "bunch of cool motherfuckers" (as del Toro described them) like Selma Blair, Ron Pearlman, Doug Jones, Mike Mignola and Luke Goss took New York City Comic-Con by Golden Army storm--at their special Hellboy II: The Golden Army panel! We were able to get a sneak peek at the awesome slew of terrifying new creatures set to feature in the hotly anticipated summertime release. We also caught a glimpse of the first official one-sheet poster and an extended trailer; and we found out who will really voice the character, Johann, as well as what crazy characters were cut from the film.
And in typical potty-mouthed-but-still-completely-inspiring del Torro fashion, the director told us that though the clip was still a bit rough and did not include all effects (some spots needed "more gore there"), he wanted us to see for ourselves: "We are going to fix all that shit so shut the fuck and listen." While we "shut the fuck and listened" and watched the quite entertaining extended clip, we found out that the voice of Johann belongs to none other than Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane!
Del Toro and cast were not alone, however--they also brought with them a slew of some of the most terrifying and incredibly designed creatures from the Hellboy film franchise that we've seen thus far. According to del Toro, these creatures were originally supposed to be paired with a bunch of others including a three-headed, 10-foot-tall bulldog that was in the "background of a scene licking itself." Del Toro added that he'd post a picture of the mutant canine on the official website this week, after fans showed thier immediate and unmitigated disapointment.
And of course we couldn't let a chat with del Toro go by without hearing what's coming up next. He told the lucky NYCC fans today that he will soon be working on an upcoming childhood-horror project titled Saturn at the End of Days, and talked a little bit about the possibility of his Hobbit film. He added that he'll know for certain what's going on with the latter project in the next four to five days.
More Hellboy II: The Golden Army details to follow, so check back soon for more news on the film's panel. And, in the meantime, check out our exclusive one-on-one with Doug "Abe Sapien" Jones!
