Children's horror films aren't just flicks to watch with the kiddies anymore. These days they wind up as frighteningly fun films that bring a bring a bit of nostalgia into the lives of adult fans of the macabre.
Igor, from writer Chris McKenna (American Dad) and director Tony Leondis, seeks to serve that very purpose, aiming to be a fun family film but also targeting adult genre enthusiasts with numerous references to some of the most iconic monster movies of early cinema. Such references include homages to The Fly, Frankenstein and The Invisible Man, specifically honored by the role of Carl Cristall, an invisible man who (appropriately) just happens to be a reporter and is voiced by comedian Arsenio Hall.
Today, Sunday, at New York Comic Con (which is traditionally kids day) the Igor team "pulled the switch," and showed kids and adult fans alike the never-before-seen trailer. A big treat, since, after seeing the trailer, we found that the new CGI monster movie for kids not only included some pretty cool graphics but also some distinguished voice talent, like 1408 star John Cusak as Igor and Molly Shannon as a science-lab creation (similar to Franenstein's monster), as well as Jay Leno, Eddie Izzard, Jennifer Coolidge and Sean Hayes.
After the screening and a Q&A, we caught up with McKenna and Leondis for a little one-on-two, and got some exclusive news on the monster madness of Igor. Check out our full Igor Video Interview and the poster below!
