When Warner Brothers first announced that The Dark Knight would not only feature the return of director Chris Nolan and Christian ?Batman/Bruce Wayne? Bale to the universe they'd created in Batman Begins, but would also star Heath ?The Joker? Ledger and Aaron ?Two-Face? Eckhart, fans flipped out, hoping for an action-packed return to Gotham City. But since the death of Ledger, fans have become even more anxious to finally see the film in which he acted his final complete role.
This weekend, at the New York Comic Con, President of DC comics, Paul Levitz, gave fans a bit of a surprise just before The Spirit panel and showed the NYCC crowd an exclusive never-before-seen extended trailer that won't be available to view outside the con for another two weeks!
In the trailer, we see much more of Ledger as the Joker, equipped with knives, guns, a slew of weapons and a fleet of clown minions. The minions are almost as creepy as Ledger?s Joker--scary-as-hell, clown-faced smaller versions of the Clown Prince of Crime, minus the wild hair and facial-flesh-rotting infection.
As if more decrepit-faced-clown action weren?t enough, we also get a little more familiar with our District Attorney Harvey Dent who, as we all know, will later become Gotham city villain, Two-Face. (Though controversy about showing the late Ledger?s villainous character as a marketing tool was recently spurred, Warner Brothers, weeks ago, confronted this with a clever ?I believe in Harvey Dent? viral marketing angle, for which Eckhart has even hosted a fake press conference to push to the film?s July 18th theatrical release.)
Overall, it seems the second trailer focuses more on a Gotham City triangle of crime, justice and insanity--in which Batman, The Joker, and Harvey Dent wage a war fueled by their personal agendas.
Also featured at the con was the newest Dark Knight poster, which features the back of the Joker, as he stares down the middle of a dark Gotham street.
Though this is all the information we have thus far, and Warner Brothers locked down the panel to prevent recordings of the top-secret trailer, we were told that you can expect to see it within the next two weeks. However, Levitz did say ?unfortunately, you?re going to have to hunt it down from here.? Why so serious, Levitz? His statement leads us to believe there may be an additional viral marketing scheme up the sleeves of those Warner Brothers execs.
I guess, we?ll all just have to wait to see that trailer again. But in the mean time, check out a photo of the newest poster below.
