Iron Man took first place for the second week in a row, grossing 50.5 million domestically according to the Hollywood Reporter. Despite the industry?s four-percent drop from Spiderman 3?s debut this time last year and Iron Man?s own fifty-percent drop in business from the week before, the armored Avenger impressed again by beating out top summer contender Speed Racer which jumped off the starting line late--taking in just 20.2 million in its first weekend. ?Obviously it's disappointing to us,? said Warner distribution President Dan Fellman of Speed?s debut.
In extremely embarrassing related news, Speed Racer only scored 200,000 more dollars than the Cameron Diaz-Ashton Kutcher rom-com What Happens in Vegas. Apparently fan boys everywhere have abandoned the Wachovskis and embraced Beauty and the Geek producer Kutcher as their new representative.
