The genius behind the epic ABC hit Lost, J.J. Abrams, has sold Fox on the two-hour pilot of his new drama The Fringe (says Variety). Abrams collaborated with scribes Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci (with whom he's working on his upcoming Star Trek film) on the project, which centers on a young female FBI agent who works with an offbeat scientist to tackle cases involving unexplained medical and scientific phenomena.
In related news Fox has also picked up the rights to the pilot for Virtuality, a Matrix-type sci-fi program created by Battlestar Gallactica's Ronald D. Moore and Michael Taylor.
But Fox hasn't been the only network looking for new talent. Variety also reported that ABC finally snagged Life on Mars, a quirky sci-fi thriller based on the hit BBC series of the same name; it's one of ABC's few newbies on its fall schedule. ABC was wrestling for Mars with Boston Legal creator David E. Kelley, who owns the rights to the U.S. adaptation. And it now seems the network is finally going to get that taste of the good Life.
