Worry no more, sci-fi lovers?Philip (or ?Big Philly Style? as I?ve dubbed him) K. Dick has posthumously sold the film rights to yet another novel says Variety. Celluloid Dreams (who, FEARnet just reported, also picked up the vampire flick Hello, Darkness) has bought the rights to the author?s classic novel Ubik. Ironically, as he?s one of the most intellectual sci-fi scribes ever, Dick?s books have spawned a slew of mindless actioners, including Minority Report, Paycheck, Impostor, and Next. So that?s Spielberg?s worst movie, Ben Affleck, Gary Sinise, and Nic Cage, all in a row. Oh boy? On the bright side, Dick is responsible for Blade Runner, so we can only hope Ubik gets that kind of treatment. The film is a metaphysical comic nightmare on death and salvation (whatever that means) and set to go into production in early ?09. It?ll be produced by Celluloid Dreams? Hengameh Panahi and Big Philly Style?s daughter Isa Dick Hackett.
