Guys, I just got some great news! Better than Robert Downey Jr. coming to your home and building you a functional Iron Man suit? Totally. Better than Stan Lee making you the central character in his next comic series? Absolutely. Another Dune adaptation is in the works! Umm?whaaa? I know if you people are anything like me, you?re a basket case if you don?t get a new incarnation of Dune every four years, so fortunately my prescription for Lexapro went down the toilet this morning when I read on theHollywoodReporter.com that Paramount Pictures is putting together a new big-screen adapt of Frank Herbert?s 1965 sprawling, sci-fi epic bestseller. Not only that, but Josh Zetumer is in negotiations to write the screenplay. Josh Zetumer! Oh my God, I love Josh Zetumer! Oh you have no idea who that is? Yeah, neither does IMDB (apparently he?s writing some movie called...Villian?). Either way, Zetumer has been blessed with the task of constructing the fourth Dune film. Previous adapts include David Lynch?s disastrous 1984 big-screener, a 2000 TV mini-series, and its 2003 TV series Children of Dune (based on Herbert's sequel novels). The original novel is one of the best selling science-fiction titles of all time, and it's accrued quite the fan base. Paramount, which is hot to trot this summer after the success of blockbusters Iron Man and Indiana Jones, is definitely looking to play the built-in-demographic card once more. Actor/director Peter Berg (Hancock, Very Bad Things) is attached to helm. Frank Herbert?s son Brian, Kevin J. Anderson (my favorite Star Wars spin-off novelist), and Paramount?s Kevin Misher will producer (under the latter's Misher Films). While this project is still far off, I?m sure casting details will come next. Stay tuned.
