DC Comics is back at it again, selling another one of its titles to the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter has spilled the beans on a deal between DC and Summit Entertainment which has been struck for the rights to comic Red after a two-year struggle to make things work out. The negotiation marks the first time that DC has strayed from partner Warner Bros to put their panels up on the silver screen. Red was a three-issue series that told the story of a former black-ops CIA agent now living a quiet life in retirement, until the day a high-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him. With his secret identity compromised and his lady love in danger, the man must reassemble his old team to figure out who is out to get them. The comic was written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Cully Hamner, and will now by translated to screenplay by brothers Erich and Jon Hoeber (Whiteout), who claim their take on the project involves the idea of an older operative set in his ways having to contend with younger and more fit agents as well as modern techniques and technology. The film is being produced by Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, who has some other big-budget adapts on his hands with Transformers 2 and G.I. Joe. No word on when the studio plans to move forward from scripting to pre-production.
