Since the dawn of my time here at FEARnet, I?ve done?we?ll say, 80 news stories. And 76 of those news stories have been about adaptations. According to the Hollywood Reporter, this one is no different? Apparently Warner Bros. has called upon the extremely bizarre Lawrence Kasdan (seriously, have you heard this man?s voice?!) to pen the screenplay for an upcoming adaptation of 80s anime cartoon Robotech (sounds like the place Lindsay Lohan will be leaving before her next arrest). While a strange, strange bird, Kasdan on the plus side is responsible for the scripts of such masterpieces as The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and of course Raiders of the Lost Ark. A sprawling sci-fi epic, Robotech takes place at a time when the Earth has developed giant robots from the technology on an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific isle. Mankind is forced to use the technology to fend off three successive waves of alien invasions. The first invasion centers on a battle with a race of giant warriors who seek to retrieve their flagship's energy source known as "protoculture," and the planet's hope for survival ends up in the hands of two young pilots. Sounds like it?s right up Kasdan?s alley. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for Warner Bros., whose last 80s anime adapt Speed Racer was a box-office fluke. Better luck this time, fellas!
