We caught up with John Russo at Texas Frightmare and he told us about his plans to turn his comic book Escape of the Living Dead into a feature length film.
In between his beer burps Russo explains, "I just made a film that I just wanted to do it's called Saloonatics and it's a really good little film about a rock band that's been struggling for 30 years to make it and they can't pay their bills and they're victimized by everybody and it was a blast. The music is good, the film is good but now I'm back to Escape of the Living Dead a screenplay that I wrote. The comic book is out so that's next and we're on the verge of getting the money to make that probably this year some time. It's back to zombies as we know them, I prefer zombies as the recently dead not so much the monsters all chewed up, you need some of that but I think it was scarier when they were the recently dead. We all have this kind of fear, you know you go to a funeral home and it's somebody you loved and knew and they're in the coffin and you're real sorry they died. I think when we made them the recently dead it struck a chord in people but when you turn them into monsters they're just monsters."
No word on any involvement from Romero, but knowing Russo's track record I think it's safe to assume he's on his own on this 'Dead' enterprise...yet again.
