News: What the Fear

'Roommate' Finds a Home

Most college freshman fear getting roomed with their anti-self ? someone who might make their living situation awkward through a series of skipped showers and strange personal practices. Well, that?s better than getting roomed with someone so obsessed with you that they start murdering everyone you try to befriend. That?s the premise to Sonny Mallhi?s spec thriller The Roommate, which, according to Variety, has been picked up by Screen Gems. Mallhi, an executive VP at Vertigo Entertainment, penned the screenplay under a pseudonym so it would be given fair consideration in the marketplace. And it wasn't until after Screen Gems made an offer on Roommate that Mallhi revealed that he wrote the spec. Mallhi most recently worked as a producer on the horror flick the Strangers. His new script focuses on Sara, a college student randomly assigned to a freshman dorm with a stranger named Rebecca. They start off as friends, but things turn deadly as Rebecca begins to target people in Sara's life. Sounds wild? or suspiciously like Single White Female ? your pick. No word when production will start on The Roommate, until then Screen Gems is scheduled to release another horror flick, Quarantine, in October.

Quarantine will be at Comic-Con! Will you?
