How many nails does it take to seal a coffin? Evidently six ? because Variety is reporting that Media Rights Capital has just handed M. Night Shyamalan three more to hammer into his own. After box-office disasters The Village, Lady in the Water, and The Happening (and ? wait, does Signs get a fraction since only the ending sucked?) M. Night is being given another shot at trying to film his way out of a wet paper bag. MRC has signed M. Night up to a deal (did they see The Happening?) that will generate one thriller per year for the next three. But all sarcasm aside, the deal could actually be the best thing for M. Night, seeing as he?s let himself get in the way of every single film he?s made since the Sixth Sense, turning them into aesthetic and conceptual disasters. With this deal Shyamalan will only be producing and working on story development ? and MRC has covered their ass by retaining creative control of the projects. So what?s this venture to be called? The Night Chronicles. In a related story, M. Night?s ego will be receiving credit for branding the project?
