Scared for the wellbeing of the universe? Don?t worry, our most trusted mode of defense will be returning quite soon. Seemingly a lost cause, the big-screen adaptation of Voltron: Defender of the Universe may now find itself thrown on the fast track to production. Variety is reporting Fox-owned New Regency and Relativity Media have teamed up on a joint venture that will throw the project into complete turnaround, giving the project a new plan for production which will utilize the type of technology applied on films like 300 in order to make way for a more modestly budgeted entity. Despite the change in direction, the pic will still be produced by Mark Gordon Co. and is said to maintain the screenplay originally penned for the project by Justin Marks. Marks? adapt sets itself up as a post-apocalyptic tale based in New York City and Mexico, where five survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth's invaders.
