There?s no doubt that Guillermo Del Toro is a busy man, but booked solid until 2017?! C?mon! I mean according to Al Gore, Planet Earth won?t even be around by 2017. Nevertheless, according to Variety, word that Guillermo, the auteur behind such horror fantasies as Hellboy and Pan?s Labyrinth, has projects lined back-to-back-to-back-to-infinity is nothing but the God?s honest truth. As you?re most likely aware, Del Toro is currently going full steam into his two part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien?s The Hobbit, a film that falls into some real estate owned by MGM and New Line. So what do studio?s matter? Well Del Toro as of June 2007 inked a four-picture deal with Universal as well ? which according to the studio will be fulfilled with filmic rehashes of Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Kurt Vonnegut?s seminal novel Slaughterhouse Five (which I think is what most excites me on Del Toro?s slate). The fourth film Del Toro plans to make under that contract is an adaptation of author Dan Simmons? novel Drood, which Uni has indicated could be Del Toro?s first post-Hobbit production. Del Toro also plans to produce but not direct an adaptation of David Moody?s post-apocalyptic novel Hater and a spec script entitled Crimson Peak, which was written by Del Toro and Mimic collaborator Matthew Robbins. Not enough for ya? Okay, well on top of that mountain of projects awaits a more literal Mountain for Guillermo to climb. Del Toro has been for quite some time attached to direct an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft?s At the Mountains of Madness and according to the article in question, that project is also still on. Whew! I?m exhausted just relaying all this information? God bless you, Mr. Del Toro! Thanks for working your ass off for the fans!
