Focus Features, the Universal-owned indie outfit, has struck a deal with director Chan Wook Park to co-produce and act as investors on his current production, the vampire film Thirst (reports Variety). Park, the director of such films as Oldboy (which I highly recommend if you want to see hammers pulling teeth out of people?s mouths) and Lady Vengeance, is making history here, as his film will be the first Korean production to receive U.S. funding before its local release. The film revolves around a priest who participates in a medical experiment to find a cure for a deadly disease, with traumatic repercussions. It?s scheduled to be completed in time for a festival bow in mid-2009.
