In case you've been living underneath a rock all summer (which, with Global Warming making the streets a tad warmer than a skinny dip at the center of Mount Doom, actually seems like a good idea), horror gamers have been watering at the mouth for one game and one game only: Dead Space. Not only does Dead Space look like the best survival horror game since Dead Rising (so named I suppose because my passion for this game was Dead and never to Rise again after two days of game play) but it?ll also be quite groundbreaking for the genre. Dead Space's "Strategic Dismemberment" is expected to change the way a player thinks about defending his/her self against aliens, zombies, etc. In this case, it's obviously mutant aliens (although zombies in space would be friggin' awesome), and the designers of Dead Space have cooked up some really cool and very scary models for you and your friends to skip work, school, and the like to battle until the staples holding your eyelids open can no longer bear the load. We at FEARnet had the good fortune of getting the chance to visit Dead Space's developer EA's headquarters in San Francisco where had an awesome interview with the game's producer Chuck Beaver. More after the jump...
Not only have the folks behind Dead Space put the whole videogame thing on its head and taken it for a ride, but they?ve also churned out some really sweet supplemental materials in order to enhance your gaming experience. Be sure to check out NoKnownSurvivors.com and view the Dead Space webisodes that track the story behind the game?s haunted origins. Not enough? Well the good people at EA have also put together a computer-animated, feature-length, direct-to-video release entitled Dead Space: Downfall. Downfall will bridge the gap between the Dead Space comic book series (yes, they?ve even made a comic book series for you people) and the Dead Space game, and will be available to own from Anchor Bay DVD on October 28th.
I know, I know? that?s a lot of information, but you?ve got all the time in the world to wrap your mind around things. Actually, no you don?t. With Dead Space?s recently advanced release date (now October 14th ? a whole friggin? week earlier) you?ll need to get splattering some blood soon, so get movin?! Hit up NoKnownSurvivors and then check out our interview with Chuck Beaver before this space shuttle launches without you!
