Oh boy. Here we go again. It was announced this morning by Variety that I Am Legend star Will Smith and director Francis Lawrence will re-visit their respective roles in an upcoming prequel of last year’s vamp—I mean zom—errr, I’m not actually sure what those things were… mutants? – yes, we’ll call them mutants. (Apparently Warner Bros didn’t make enough money this summer from the Dark Knight and is now picking pennies out of the couch cushions.) The film will take place during humanity’s last days and we will see how Dr. Robert Neville (Smith) became the last man on Earth (even though he really wasn’t the last man on Earth, and even though his origin was explained last time around).
Personally, I wasn’t a fan of the first movie and this seems like nothing more than some idiotic ploy to pickpocket moviegoers. The script will be penned by D.B. Weiss from a detailed outline put together by Big Willy (not a good sign), Lawrence, and producers Akiva Goldsman (ditto) and James Lassiter. In other news, the Playstation graphics used to create the mutants in the first film will be upgraded to Playstation 2 graphics for the sequel!
