Ring, Ring... You're Dead!

Good thing multi-national conglomerates don’t only own the American film industry… According to Variety, Korean industrial conglom Hanwha's first film as a producer will be Kim Han-Min's thriller The Cell Phone.  Hanwha has backed various local films since last year, including The Chaser, current box office champ The Divine Weapon, and Korean western The Good, the Bad and the Weird, but now it seems the company will be going after the whole shebang.  The Cell Phone is about an entertainment exec intimidated by an anonymous stalker after losing his… copy of Rush’s seminal album Moving Pictures.  Just kidding, it’s after he loses his cell phone.  The modestly budgeted 3.5 million dollar pic began lensing Monday and will wrap mid-December.  SK Telecom will distribute the film in the first half of 2009, so look out for that – because you know what I always say: Why support indie cinema when one gigantic company can own and desensitize everything?
