'Tales From the Crypt' Gets... Political?

Apparently, aside from being a centuries-old skeleton person, the Crypt Keeper also fancies himself a bleeding-heart liberal.  A strange little political push has popped up on the cover of the latest issue of Tales of the Crypt, urging people to vote Democrat.  How are they urging people to go with Senator Obama?  By putting Republican Vice President Nominee Sarah Palin on the cover – killing old ladies with a hockey stick!  Hmm… makes sense to me.  Check out the cover for the comic below (which we scored thanks to Comic Monsters) and be sure to pick up Tales From the Crypt number 8 at your local comic retailer – whether you’re democrat or communis—I mean republican, I think we can all get a laugh out of this one.

Cathy Gaines Mifsud, daughter of the legendary publisher of Mad Magazine and the original Tales from the Crypt, has this to say about the controversial cover:  “Tales From the Crypt is not endorsing any political candidates . . . . nor are we attacking any candidates. Tales does care about freedom and censorship.  The forces of censorship pushed my father to stop publishing Tales and other horror comics.  What usually seems to be behind banning books is an attempt to repress ideas that may offer alternative political views. This is not only un-American -- blatantly violating the very concept of free speech -- but it is assuming that people are unable to come to their own informed conclusions.”  So there you have it… depicting Sarah Palin killing old ladies with a hockey stick is not a direct attack upon her.  Riiiiiight.
