This summer it was reported that Woody Harrelson was all signed up to star in a film entitled Zombieland – and that was the last we heard of that. Until today! Bah, bah, bah… Yeah we know, but the Hollywood Reporter name-dropped the zombie movie for the second time in its illustrious run this morning, when they popped out news that young, curly-haired man Jesse Eisenberg has jumped on board the cast. Apparently Eisenberg has been cast as Flagstaff, a terrified shut-in whose cowardice makes him an expert at surviving the zombies, but who is forced out of his shell to join the band of survivors, which includes Harrelson. (Most significantly, he’s been cast as a character with a really, really bad character description.) Eisenberg has had various acting gigs in such films as The Village, the upcoming Adventureland, and the indie flick that so notoriously stole away a very good National Geographic title, The Squid and the Whale.

Zombieland follows a mismatched pair of survivors who find friendship and redemption in a world overrun by zombies. Ruben Fleischer is directing the flick off a script by the writing team Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. No word yet on when production starts but with two of the bigger cast members locked down, I’m sure it will only be a matter of time before cameras are rolling.
