At last weekend's Baltimore Comic-Con we got the scoop on an upcoming project from the good folks at the free online comics website, Comicmix.com. Vice President of Corporate Coordination told us about The Pilgrim, a new series by writer Mark Ryan and famed comics artist Mike Grell (Jon Sable, Warlord, Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters) supposedly debuting in late October online, and inspired by one of the craziest meetings of all time – between Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, and legendary occultist Aleister Crowley! Read on, dear FEARfan…
Okay, so Mike Grell is an artist familiar to many comics fans, but who is Mark Ryan?
Mark Ryan is an actor who was in the BBC Robin Hood. He's the voice of Bumblebee in Transformers, and did all the motion capture. He originated several roles in the original production of Evita in London. And he was a consultant with British Intelligence. The springboard for this story was Ian Fleming recruiting Aleister Crowley to help British Intelligence in World War II.
Can you talk about what this series is like? The tone or the genre…
It's spies, and it's X-Files.
Okay, so there's a supernatural element to it?
Yes, definitely.
And are Crowley and Fleming in this?
No, but it's inspired by them. Unless it's in a part I haven't read yet.
So can you talk about the extent to which it's inspired? Is it about an occultist hired by a writer…
It's like…what if the CIA and military intelligence used people with paranormal abilities?
And the format it will take…?
It's a graphic novel that'll be in weekly installments. Just like all of our stuff.
And there you have it. Keep looking for more on this on FEARnet and Comicmix.com!
