May you call him Arthur?  No.  No, you may not.  May you call him the King of the Undead?  Now that sounds a little more appropriate, because if you've ever enjoyed a copy of Marvel Zombies (and if you haven't then seriously, man, what the eff?!) you're greatly indebted to Mr. Suydam for his masterful cover illustrations.  Since beginning his career at an extremely young age, the celebrated illustrator has gone on to win many, many awards for his work in the industry, as well as work on such celebrated comic titles as Wolverine and Hellstorm.  But don't worry, that's not that last you'll see of this dynamo.  FEARnet's Joseph McCabe had the chance to speak with Suydam this weekend at Mid-Ohio Con, where he chatted about Marvel Zombies, his new stint on Ghost Rider and his passion project, the upcoming Skin Deep.  Read what good Sir Suydam had to say...

What's next for you in terms of horror?  Because you've been doing a lot of that recently.

What's next for me in terms of horror? Well I'm working on my own zombie series that I've been working on for ten years.  So I'm getting close to being finished with that.  It's called Skin Deep.  Speaking of horror, I just got assigned to do Ghost Rider for Marvel.  Yeah, so I'm starting on Ghost Rider -- just this past week as a matter of fact.

Is that more cover work?

It's a cover.  Interiors -- I did a story, of course I did it quite some time ago, but that won something where it's in a big book in the U.K.  It got collected as one of the best horror comic stories of all time.  That one's called Christmas Carol.  So that came out this year -- I think it's called The Big Book of Horror or something like that.  I'm also working on Marvel Zombies 3, doing the variant covers for that.

You mentioned Skin Deep -- do you know when we can expect that?

Not right now.  Because I keep missing it.  [Laughs.]  I keep setting them and it takes me longer than I think.  But it's getting closer.

What is it that appeals to you about the genre that keeps bringing you back to it?

That's a tricky one to answer because I'm not sure.  I'm not sure what it is, other than I love horror movies.  I've always liked horror movies.  Part of it for me is that drawing it?it has to do with an interest in anatomical art.  I like drawing anatomy.  I like painting anatomy.  That's one of things that got me into drawing to begin with -- so I think that's a big part of it.

Okay, and one last question - we have one we always like to throw out - in real life, what?s your greatest fear?

Zombies! [Laughs.]
