In advance of their new studio release, Dark Thrones and Black Flags (scheduled to arrive on USA shores October 28), Norwegian metal gods Darkthrone have launched a new website packed with cool content – including free music downloads, videos of the band in the studio, plus an assortment of wicked web widgets and evil wallpapers for PC and phone.
Formed over 20 years ago by core members Ted Skjellum (aka Nocturno Culto) and Gylve Nagell (alias Fenriz), this seminal band has straddled several genres, transitioning from death metal to black metal in the early '90s with the album A Blaze in the Northern Sky – and became one of the best-known names in Norway's black metal movement. The band began incorporating more punk elements into their sound with the release of The Cult is Alive, then brought a touch of old-school metal to the mix with last year's F.O.A.D.
According to the band, the new album – their 14th – will be a continuation of this style (which they've dubbed “Blackened Rock”) and includes tracks like “Witch Ghetto” and “Viking Metal Punks.” The latter is available as a free download from their website, so strap on your spikiest gauntlets, slather on some corpse paint and go check it out.
