Okay, here’s the dish… I am really gonna flip the eff out if I see one more movie with the same exact plot as Stephen King’s Cell BEFORE I see a movie adaptation of Stephen King’s Cell. I'm also going to flip out if I have to write one more news story about Guillermo Del Toro this week. Fortunately for all my co-workers it’s Friday and partly cloudy, with only a 30% chance of Cell’s plot being stolen again. (I like those odds!). According to Variety, J.A. Bayona (director of the Del Toro-produced The Orphanage) has signed on to direct the Glen Mazzara scripted Hater, which Del Toro will produce. The pic falls under Del Toro’s newly signed first-look deal with Universal.
Hater is about an epidemic of violence perpetrated by ordinary people. Crazily enough, it's based off of a novel by British author David Moody, which makes me wonder if Stephen King stole this idea from Moody and I should really be dying to see a movie adaptation of this instead of Cell. Oh boy, I’m confused... The pic will lense next year, shooting exteriors domestically and interiors in Spain.
