Anyone else sick of Evil Dead IV talk?  I mean, yeah, it’d be incredible to see a fourth installment in one of horror’s greatest (and strangest) franchises, but there comes a time when you’ve just gotta face facts.  It seems to me that director Sam Raimi, star Bruce Campbell and producer Rob Tapert are all on different pages about what the future holds for Ash and his boomstick.  Sci-Fi Wire just had the chance to sit down with Tapert, who actually came up with what sounds like the most honest explanation of the supposed fourth installment’s status:

“Sam promises he's going to do Evil Dead IV, with Bruce Campbell starring in it [as Ash], at some point in time. I just hope Bruce is still alive."  Funny and brutally honest.  I like that.  As for the other Evil Dead projects that have long been rumored?  Well Tapert had something to say about how those as well…

"Sam and I have kicked the idea of a remake around, with Sam really being the person pushing for it over Bruce's objections and kind of my going, 'Why?'" Tapert said. "It was a movie that nobody saw theatrically, and it was meant to be a theatrical experience. If we could get some young filmmaker to go and say, 'I can make this far better than Sam did,' we should let him go and try. Sam is the one who keeps saying, 'We should do that,' and I'm the one too busy and somewhat too reluctant and lazy to really fully enable Sam to get it done.”

There's a guy [producer Don Carmody] who wants to make a musical out of it, a 3-D musical based on the one [Evil Dead: The Musical] that ran off-Broadway," Tapert continued. "And I still think that that's the one I'd like to see greatly.”

There you have it folks. We’ll be waiting another thirty, forty years for another Evil Dead film.  And Sam?  Keep ruining my beloved childhood friend Spider-Man instead of making the film you were born to, GOOD SIR!
