If may be so bold to say so… I am sick of Captain Jack Sparrow. Yes, he was a great character and Johnny Depp did a great job creating him/playing him but, honestly, Depp is an incredible actor and I’d much rather prefer to see him play other roles and exercise his craft than have to watch him dress up like the same character three more times. By now you might be wondering what warranted this attack on Captain Sparrow. Well, according to Entertainment Weekly, Depp’s vampire project Dark Shadows (which Tim Burton has been attached to direct for quite some time) has been put on hold indefinitely to make way for a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean pic. Shadows is a gothic-horror tale centering on the life of vampire Barnabas Collins and his run-ins with various monsters, witches, werewolves and ghosts. The film is based on the popular late ‘60s television series.

Another Depp project, Shantaram, is suffering the same fate, and is also being taken off the table to make way for Pirates 4. Who is letting this happen? And more importantly, who cares about Pirates of the Caribbean? The first one was great. The second suffered the same fate of every franchise that tries to bridge their second and third films together instead of treating them as separate but equal films – it sucked. And the third one sucked and made absolutely no sense but distracted the head-scratchers with its crazy visual effects. Let’s get Depp out of the pirate uniform and let him show us what he’s really capable of!
