Here at FEARnet we believe in taking the road less traveled, especially when that road is less traveled because it’s haunted! Today’s edition of Streets of Fear brings us to Gallows Hill Road, an ominously named street in one of America’s great hotbeds of supernatural activity – Salem, Massachusetts. Many disturbing reports revolve around Gallows Hill Road and Gallows Hill Park, in which the road ends.
The road gets its name from Gallows Hill Park, one of the most notorious areas in Salem. In the late 1600’s, the Salem witch trials shocked the community (and eventually, the world at large), when various citizens of Salem were suddenly accused and brought to trial. When the town leaders found certain members of the community guilty, they were sent to be executed on…you guessed it, Gallows Hill.
Gallows Hill is said to hold the memories and pain of the events that took place there. Some people report hearing footsteps and cries for help in the area, while others feel as though the air itself has thickened, making breathing difficult. A local resident, who once lived closest to Gallows Hill before advanced development took over the region, claims that lightning entered her room and formed the shape of a man. Shocking!
The road itself, which leads to the park, may not have the type of haunts felt inside the park, but that doesn’t mean the area hasn’t left its mark. Many report that the entire area, road included, is full of dark energy. The thoughtless prosecution and murder that took place in the park now leaves what many consider an ethereal scar on the land. When we spoke with a psychic medium, it was on Gallows Hill Road that she first felt the cries of help from supernatural victims.
Whether these dark feelings are modern-day interpretations of past events, or whether the darkness of that blood-stained age still lingers in the area is anybody’s guess. But the one thing we know for sure is that Gallows Hill is definitely a Street of Fear! Don’t believe us? Check out our Gallows Hill Road episode to see for yourself!
