Extraterrestrial Highway

Up until now we’ve been riding the FEARbus from town to town, checking out the ghosts that haunt various scary streets.  And it’s been pretty smooth driving.  Well, a funny thing happened to us while passing through Nevada.  The bus stalled, a light shined down on us, and suddenly we were in an alien craft!  Okay…so that didn’t actually happen, but it’s easy to imagine this scenario while checking out the Extraterrestrial Highway – today’s Street of Fear!

Extraterrestrial Highway

The Extraterrestrial Highway is a long patch of road that runs through south central Nevada, located near the infamous UFO stomping ground Area 51.  In 1996, the road’s name was officially changed from Nevada State Highway 375 to ET Highway, perhaps to cash in on that year’s mega blockbuster Independence Day.  But movie tie-ins or not, this highway is a hot bed for otherworldly phenomenon!

There have been reports of the usual: lights in the sky, strange crafts, apparently unexplainable noises and lasers.  But ask some of the locals in the area, and you’re bound to hear some shocking stories.  Take, for instance, the local innkeeper, who says she saw lights penetrate her door!  Or (as was reported by Stephen Regenold in The New York Times in 2007) the story a retired air force engineer told about seeing a craft emitting an orange sodium-vapor!

Extraterrestrial Highway

We just had to check out a road with a name and reputation like this.  So we teamed up with some of Nevada’s best alien hunters to learn if something’s been watching us from the skies.  See what we found out on our Extraterrestrial Highway episode of Streets of Fear!
