A still from what will sadly be the last film we’ll ever get to see Heath Ledger in has hit the web today by way of /Film. The photo features Ledger holding some kind of crazy-looking mask which, with Terry Gilliam (Twelve Monkeys, Brazil, and the brutally awful Brothers Grimm) at the helm of this film, I think it’s safe to assume will be the most normal thing you’ll see in this movie. Check out the pic below. Doctor Parnassus hit troubled waters this January when Heath Ledger died suddenly and tragically forcing Gilliam to replace him with a bevy of actors including Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell. The film is expected to release next year but at this point has failed to secure a distributor and so the exact date is still unknown.
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, the film’s full title, centers on the story of Dr. Parnassus (go figure…) and his extraordinary 'Imaginarium,' a traveling show where members of the audience get an irresistible opportunity to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom. Blessed with the extraordinary gift of guiding the imaginations of others, Dr. Parnassus is cursed with a dark secret. Long ago he made a bet with the devil, Mr. Nick, in which he won immortality. Many centuries later, on meeting his one true love, Dr. Parnassus made another deal with the devil, trading his immortality for youth, on condition that when his first-born reached its 16th birthday he or she would become the property of Mr. Nick. Parnassus will star Christopher Plummer and Tom Waits in the roles of the good Doctor and Mr. Nick respectively.
