This really sounds like a terrible idea for a buddy comedy starring Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller… two ghost-huntin’ pals – who, by the way, couldn’t be more different – are mandated by court order to go back to college for an entire semester. But things aren’t gonna be all rulers and scotch tape when the two hunters enroll in the same school their ghastly arch nemesis, the ghost of part-time housekeeper/full-time troublemaker Marbles Maguffin (played of course by Mickey Rooney), has been eyeing to spook. Yeah, it’s actually making me ill to think this movie pitch might get a studio offer. But, thankfully, according to The Hollywood Reporter, that won’t be necessary, as the Sci-Fi Channel will be sending the hosts of their reality show Ghost Hunters to college in a spin-off of the popular series.

Tentatively titled Ghost Hunters: College Edition, the show features a group of students going around the country to seek out paranormal activity. The students will be guided by an experienced ghost investigator. Producers have not determined if any cast members from the other shows will be involved in the new project. Hunters launched in 2004, starring two Rhode Island plumbers who investigate purportedly haunted houses in their spare time. The show has since grown every season and is now Sci-Fi's second highest-rated series (after the new drama Sanctuary). The Oct. 8 Hunters episode scored an all-time high of 2.7 million total viewers. No word yet on when we can expect College Edition but my guess would be next fall, although it could be shot in time for mid-season pick up. We’ll get back to you on that.
