Gerard Way, lead singer of Gothic-rock sensations My Chemical Romance, may have a shot at getting his best-selling Dark Horse comic book series The Umbrella Academy on the big screen. A first-look deal forged between Dark Horse and Universal included an option for the series – which received a nomination for Best Comic at this year’s Scream Awards – to be adapted for a feature film. Rumor has it Alfonso Cuaron (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Children of Men) is being approached about directing. Not one to sit around and wait, Way is currently hard at work with Umbrella co-creator Gabriel Bá on completing the first part of a follow-up to the initial Apocalypse Suite limited series. The new installment, Dallas, centers on events leading up to the 1963 JFK assassination and is scheduled to hit stands on November 26th.
Rumor has it Gerard’s next comic project will be an adaptation of the Tom Waits & William Burroughs rock opera The Black Rider… but so far nothing official has come out on that – but we can dream, can’t we?
