We just spoke with Tim Seeley, creator of the hit horror comic Hack/Slash about the comics he’s currently working on and the progress of Rogue Pictures’ adaptation of his comic. He gave us the scoop on everything from the progress of the film, to possible casting choices to how the monstrous sidekick, Vlad, will be dealt with in the film. We even squeezed some details out of him about what slashers we can expect to see Cassie cross swords (or knives or chainsaws) with!
Apparently the final draft of the script has been written. Seeley stated, “I got the final draft of the script in a week ago. I get to read that, and I see all the plans that they intend to do with the casting and all that stuff.” We then asked Seeley how the possible buyout of Rogue pictures by Relativity Media would affect the film. “I’ve actually been looking to get the answer to that question myself,” he said, “I hope it doesn’t affect anything. I know Relativity’s funded a lot of good movies and a lot of diverse movies, so I know they have an eye for a wide variety of films. I think that works to our advantage.”
As for the tone of the film, Tim explains, “The writer did a really good job of taking from whatever he thought really worked…lines and scenes were taken directly from the comic. It’s a lot like the comic. Character humor, lots of crazy gory stuff, lots of nudity and gory stuff. It’s pretty much like a combination of three or four different issues and its own storyline together.”
We also got confirmation on one of the Slashers appearing in the film! Seeley stated, “As you can probably figure out, Cassie’s mom will have some part in it. That’s the only one for sure. I mean there are characters mentioned in the script, but they are all sort of open to whatever Todd [Lincoln, the film’s director,] kind of decides to use visually. But definitely Cassie’s mom will have something to do with it.”
As to who might be playing Cassie Hack and Vlad, Tim relented, “I know they had two or three names that they kept throwing around. I know if I say them I’ll ruin anything that was supposed to happen with it. But the ones they’re throwing around are definitely ones that readers and speculators have thrown around too. So everyone’s on the same page.” Hmm…there are rumors abounding that Megan Fox is interested in playing Cassie. We’re not making any claims…just saying…
That may go doubly for Vlad, who Tim says will be played by “an actor with practical special effects make up. That’s for sure. Definitely not CGI. It’ll be an actor, it’ll be a good actor.” Could this coincide with the big rumor that Michael Clarke Duncan was Todd Lincoln’s first choice for Vlad?
When we asked Tim who he would like to see play Cassie Hack, he answered, "If I could do anything, over all time? I’d go back in time and get Shirley MacClaine when she was young and hot. It’s not that she’s not attractive now, but she’s older. But say, 1940s, '50s era Shirley MacClaine, when she was 18, 19. That’s the girl right there." [Editor's note: Having seen Ms. MacClaine in director Frank Tashlin's musical comedy Artists and Models (opposite Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis) we can attest that she was indeed once a stone-cold fox.]
There you have it. We’re really pulling for this flick, so here’s hoping Relativity will pick it up. Until then, keep checking back with us, as we’ll have the rest of our conversation with Tim Seeley up soon.
