Studio Negotiations Become an 'Inferno'

Movie adaptations have been spinning out of control recently, and, with the rights to any property on any platform being vacuumed up by studios, today we've reached the low point of this battle. According to Variety, four movie studios are currently fighting it out over movie rights for a video game that hasn’t even been publicly announced yet! The game is basically a journey through hell a la Dante’s Inferno (which could actually end up being the game’s name when it finally is published), and it should launch late next year. But, by Thursday evening, Universal, Paramount, New Regency and MGM were battling for the property after watching Warner Bros. drop out earlier that day. The most pathetic part about this whole debacle, however, has got to be that the game hasn’t even been shown to the public yet. Videogames are usually a hot commodity for studios, despite their spotty box-office track records, due to their multi-platform friendly nature. But how can these studios even be sure that the game isn’t a flop? Do they really need money that bad? Apparently so…
