'Dante's Inferno' Video Game and Movie News!

A recent article printed in Variety may have let a cat out of the bag a little early for Dead Space publisher EA. It turns out they’ve been shopping around the movie rights to a new game they’re developing titled “Dante’s Inferno,” a video game trip through hell alleged to be a “modern interpretation of the epic poem.” Ugh. This can’t bode well, as those who’ve read The Divine Comedy can attest to the work’s less-than-action-packed nature. Even more bizarre is that there’s a bidding war over a game that hasn’t even been formally announced to the public, let alone released. I don’t mean to sound cynical, but I have yet to see a video game movie that truly did its source material justice (though Silent Hill came quite close), and this weird cart-before-the-horse ploy doesn’t sit right.
I also can’t help but point out that Inferno is only the first part of The Divine Comedy, followed by Purgatorio and Paradiso…uh oh. I smell a trilogy.
