Michael Winterbottom – a director best known for the indie street cred he picked up from films like 24 Hour Party People and the documentary The Road to Guantanamo – is setting up his most mainstream project since last year’s Angelina Jolie starrer A Mighty Heart. The film, entitled The Killer Inside Me, focuses on a West Texas sheriff and his downward spiral from a boring small-town cop into a ruthless, sociopathic murderer. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, Winterbottom has recruited Oscar nominee Casey Affleck to play the sheriff, along with The Eye/Sin City hottie Jessica Alba to play a prostitute. The Killer Inside Me takes its story from the novel of the same name by noir author Jim Thompson. The book was previously turned into a 1976 film starring Stacy Keach.
